As parents, we want the best for our children. If you can spend 30 minutes every day reading to your child, will you spend 15 minutes every day enhancing your child’s overall brain development?
Counting is a critical foundation life skill.
Between the ages of 2 and 3, your child might be figuring out the concept of counting in his mind. By the time your child is in kindergarten, your child will start to improve his counting skills by solving problems involving addition and subtraction. By the time your child is 10 years old, your child have developed a fairly matured system of counting and handling multiple digits.
To support our child’s brain development, we first need to understand that different activities are associated with using different parts of the brain.
Academic and logical activities such as numbers, language, words, etc.… are associated with the left brain. The right brain is associated with more artistic and creative activities such as imagination, rhythm, movement, etc. …
Children with a more dominant left brain are predominantly more analytical and detail-orientated. It is desirable that children develop holistically. Involvement in activities that engage both sides of the brain results in a more holistic approach to brain development for our children.
Try this: Can you calculate the answer within seconds?
96.14 + 7.52 + 13.08 + 42.96 – 5.1 + 39.57 + 92.81 – 5.04 + 4.18 – 63.72
A child who has been trained in abacus mental arithmetic will be able to calculate the answer within seconds. The ability of a child to derive the answer in such a short time shows that the child, has a clear virtual image of the abacus formed in the mind, as our 2 hands 4 fingers methodology is designed to stimulate both sides of the brain effectively.
Mental arithmetic exercises are not only good for brain development in children, they are also great mental exercises for adults too, to keep their brains fit and healthy. The brain is an amazing organ. Like the rest of our body, our brains need regular exercise in order to keep fit and stay sharp, just like the muscles in our body.
Hence, investing 15 minutes every day, by adopting our mental arithmetic methodology, to develop your child’s mental arithmetic ability will equip your child with a useful life skill that they can use in their daily lives.
